How to Start an Online Business from Scratch – Case Study of Nina Andres!
Many people want to know how exactly do you start an online business from scratch. Of course there are dozens, if not hundreds of programs, online teaching a variety of subjects (building a blog, driving traffic, writing articles, SEO and Keyword Research, Creating Information Products, writing eBooks, etc)…but I think a great way for me to teach YOU how to build an online business from scratch is to let you observe me doing that while I work with one of my VIP Clients, Nina Andres.

Meet Nina Andres!
History: Nina contacted me via my website and asked for a consultation. On March 11, 2013, we had a 1 hour consultation where I learned all about Nina as well as her idea for an online business. I know she had a great topic (Online Dating Help for Women), that was in demand, as well as a great “personal” story! What I really liked about Nina was her determination, enthusiasm, and creativity. She also has a great skill set of computer knowledge, writing, tech-savvy, and life experience.
So at the end of our consultation, I felt we were a good match for my VIP Day Program and suggested to Nina that we work together in building her “new” online business. So Nina signed up for my VIP Program on March 14, 2013.
She instantly received my 15-page “6-Figure Woman Internet Business Manifesto” (given only to my VIP Day Clients) and I encouraged her to read it over during the weekend and on Monday, March 18, 2013, we would have our first “Coaching Call.” (The VIP Day includes 6 hours of Coaching from me and we decided to break this down into six 1-hour calls). I thought that was a great format so we could decide on the “tasks” for the week, and with my guidance, Nina would begin implementing those tasks.
Week 1 Coaching Call Tasks for Nina to Complete:
- Finalize domain name for website. (Done!; www.virtuousforlove.com) *I’ll be building the site this weekend.
- Purchase Domain Name and Hosting with Bluehost (Done!)
- Pick a Professional Paid Theme from Builder’s Ithemes (Done! Nina chose the “Hatbox” theme which is not one of the themes I have a license for so she had to pay for that separately)
- Write an “About” page for your new website; (Done! This will be up on the site next week for you to see)
- Write an “Outline” for your 6-week online course (Done!)
Costs Involved this Week for Nina:
- Domain Names (Nina purchased 3) $30.00
- Hosting ($4.95 per month at Bluehost);
- Builder’s Ithemes “Allure” themes combo pack because Nina wants to build more websites in the future) $197

“Doing a 1-hour consultation with Michelle was a no-brainer! After reading her testimony, I knew I wanted to pick her brain and see if my business idea was worthwhile. She’s a great listener and has positive energy; so our conversation flowed very quickly. When she offered me the two options, I opted for the Virtual VIP for a Day, since I knew I wanted to have control of every aspect. Plus, I couldn’t sit on my ideas any longer. Starting an online business from scratch is a daunting process. Even though I spent many years in the High Tech industry writing for world class companies, creating something for myself was overwhelming. Since my business model encompasses Online Dating based on my personal experiences, it required me to put myself out there. It became downright scary. Self doubt and “perceived” rejection immediately clouded my head. Michelle “held my hand” and encouraged me throughout as if she was a long-time friend. So many decisions come in to play from the word “GO.” There is no way I could’ve done this one on my own. I would’ve been stuck on one decision and would have hijacked the whole project over that one bump in the road. In my VIP program, the point of the program is for me to work with clients to design “customized” strategies for them to implement for their new online business (or their already existing online business).
