Are you wondering how to make money from a blog?
I think the question I get asked the most is “How do I make money from a Blog?” Before we answer that question, let’s first talk about what a blog is.
The term “blog” did not even exist before the late 1990’s. Before “blogs” existed there were “moderated discussion forums” online where people shared information about specific topics.
The blog actually evolved from the online diary, where people would keep a running account of their personal lives. Most of these writers called themselves diarists, journalists, or journalers.
Since 2004, the role of blogs became increasingly mainstream, as politicians, news services, journalists, writers, musicians, artists and television shows began using them as tools for outreach and opinion forming.
Blogs are common now and are very much an accepted way of how we receive information relating to a specific topic. Some blogs are “informational” only and aren’t designed to make money, however, most blogs make money through one or more of the following:
- Private Advertisers;
- Promotion of affiliate products and services;
- Amazon Affiliate Program;
- Selling digital information such as eBooks or eCourses;
- Coaching services such as life coaching, business coaching, money coaching, etc;
- Paid Reviews (a company pays the blogger to review their product or service);
- Google Adsense (by placing a line of code on your website, you allow Google to strategically place related ads on your website);
- Membership Sites (you become a member and receive monthly services or products);
These are the most common ways on how to make money from a blog.
So now, let’s take a look at some real life blogs that make money incorporating some of the ways I just listed above:
- Private Advertisers: I don’t have any private advertisers on my 6-Figure Woman Blog, however, here is a site that does: http://thriftyniftymommy.com/ Look in the right hand column where you see “Sponsors” and then you will see different image ads. Those are private advertisers paying to be on that site. This site also has paid advertisers on it: http://simplemom.net/
- Promotion of Affiliate Programs: You can check out my “Resource” page on my website and many of the links are my affiliate links that I get paid a commission on if someone clicks on them: https://www.becomea6figurewoman.com/resources/
- Amazon Affiliate Program: Anyone can become an affiliate of Amazon and receive commissions when someone uses your link on your blog. Here is one of my website clients who is using her amazon affiliate link to promote these products related to her topic: http://www.cantweight.org/products/
- Selling digital information such as eBooks or eCourses: I sell several eCourses on my Blog/Website such as: “How to Make Your First $1000 Online“, “How to Become an Amazon Best Selling Author” and “Career Change Emergency: Creating Work You Love“!
- Coaching services such as life coaching, business coaching, money coaching, etc: Here is a women who offers coaching services on her blog: http://www.seattlemoneycoach.com/
- Paid Reviews – Here is a site that does paid reviews: http://digital-photography-school.com/cameras
- Google Adsense: Here is a site that uses Google Adsense (look right under the header on the site): http://www.securityguardtraininghq.com/
- Membership Sites: Here is a site that charges a monthly fee to be a member and receive information: http://www.marketingformore.com/
