Dream Boards and Vision Boards are simply visual representations of what you want to create in your life. There is no “right” or “wrong” way to create a dream or vision board. Depending on what you want to create in your life, you can include on your dream board goals for material things (tangibles) you would like to acquire such as: cars, houses, furniture, clothing, vacations; as well as experiences or intangibles such as: love, confidence, peace, community, forgiveness, health, etc.
Here is what my Dream Board (Vision Board) looks like as it sits in my master bathroom because I can look at it every morning when I get up and every evening when I go to bed:
I have made a lot of dream boards over the years, and they’ve changed as I’ve changed. I don’t currently have a lot of “material” goals in my life as I have everything I desire at this moment. So some of my goals are being healthy, eating fit, being at my goal weight, earning a certain amount of income, publishing a book, my spirituality, my relationship with my children, etc.
This is a close-up picture of my dream board.
One of the places I get pictures from are CALENDARS!
Yes, I save old calendars because the ones I invest in are so beautiful that I hate to throw them away, so I re-purpose them by cutting out pictures from them for my Dream Board.
Here are some of the calendars I’ve used for my Dream Boards in case you are interested:
The key is to get clear about what you want to create in your life. The majority of people don’t get what they want because they never take the time to sit down and figure out what they want.
One of the methods I’ve taught in my seminars over the years is to make a list of what you “don’t want” in your life.
Although this may sound counter-intuitive, it can lead you to what you do want.
For example:
- I don’t want to be broke; (I want to make $10,000 per month doing what I love).
- I don’t want clutter in my house (I want organization and only things I love in my surroundings).
- I don’t want to be single (I want a boyfriend/husband/companion, etc).
So if you can’t figure out what you want in your life, start by making a list of what you don’t want. Then turn it into the list of what you do want.
Once you have your list, follow these simple steps to creating your own Vision Board/Dream Board:
- Purchase a large poster board from a craft store;
- Make your list of things you want in your life (or things you don’t want);
- Cut out photos that are visual reminders of what you want to create in your life (use old calendars, magazines, the internet, photos)
- Use a glue stick or some other type of adhesive and place them on your poster board.
- Put your Dream Board in a place that you will see every morning and every evening as your subconscious mind will start to attract to you that which you focus on and you will be focusing more on these things…because you’ll be looking at them every day!
Enjoy!
